Grandfather Wisdom
Once I had a mother skunk nest in the hollow opening of my trunk, the leaves complained of her smell, it wasn't all bad...that skunk kept tree loggers away who wanted to chop my limbs. You take the bad, you take the good.
Been standing here for a long time I've seen almost everything under the Sun; but the day I saw bubbles float down from the sky was out of this world amazing. They came down chattering and wondering aloud how beautiful this field of wildflowers are and it is where I have stood for the past three hundred years, my oak is strong. I wondered how they were able to keep floating without bursting in mid-air because I have never seen a bubble do that before and there were two of them....so I asked. The bubble told me his name was M.E. and his other bubble friend was Lumy.....M.E. talked his head off! I was so tickled with him. He told me all sorts of things...like he longed to meet the Sun and Moon and wanted to visit the city of Paris....I introduced him to the Moon. Well actually I told him to wait here by the watering well because the Moon shines there every night..it was the least I could do. Who knew the next day would be so bad?
It was just after dawn I felt rumbling in my roots like something big was approaching and sure enough a truck pulled up to the edge of the field, the sign said "Floristry". I knew the three men who descended the truck were there to gather flowers. They had tools and gently began to pull flowers from the earth. Lumy, the other bubble stayed behind to look after the lovely flower Lonna but there was nothing he could do to protect her.
Carefully one of the men dug up the earth around Lonna and placed her in tissue paper. My heart broke in pieces when she moved the tissue paper aside and said to Lumy "All the beautiful flowers are chosen one day". Lumy watched the truck until it was out of sight, I told him she would be a star in a beautiful arrangement or a diamond in a potted plant. He said nothing and slowly drifted into the well. It wasn't until that afternoon when M.E. returned and I told him the story. M.E. had gone into the well after his friend. They darted out so quickly I thought they were being chased but they were laughing so hard; then I knew everything was okay. They stayed on for a few days and then left to go exploring. Lonna, the lovely flower is gone but I know she is where she is supposed to be, making someone happy and I know those bubbles are still floating around because that is what amazing bubbles do.
Sincerely,
Deep Root---The Big Tree in the field of Wildflowers

Lonna's Sonnet
Today as the wind blows softly, the sun beams in the cloudless sky and the earth is warm, I stand and grow a lil' taller. I can't help it I want to feel the sun's rays on my petals. These days one must be careful of the danger that may be lurking. One could get snatched!
I watched as Grand Ma Ma stood and stretched her petals on a day such as this and was taken up almost to her roots. A man wrapped his plump hand around her stem and snatched her up out of the ground. He gave her to a woman in a white dress with ruffles that looked like whipped cake frosting. He grabbed cousin Delphinium, Uncle Eucharist, my friend Chrysanthemum and a bunch of others too. One by one he plucked them from this field of wildflowers, crushing blades of grass beneath shiny black shoes. The area beneath the great tree was razed in one fell swoop except for me and a few others. We were able to grow again but it has not been the same since Grand Ma Ma was torn asunder, she was such a grand lily.
Draped over the man's fist she called to me and said in a calm, unhurried fashion "Lonna, all the pretty flowers are chosen one day". Grand Ma Ma even smiled as she and the others were presented to the woman in the ruffled white dress. I stand here sun on my petals wind in my face...waiting.
Love,
Lonna "The Lovely" Flower

Beelzebug's Rant
Beelzebug’s Rant
Who cares about having stupid friends anyway? People always
scream when I come around….because I have six legs and can run faster than
anyone! No one has to tell me anything
because I know everything, I’ve been around a long time……so that’s it…I’ve seen
everything…HUSH! Listen to me cause I’m
never gon’ listen to you! Stupid leaves
always laughing…I dance for them and they look the other way….these bubble’s come
along and they giggle their heads off
makes me mad.----But those leaves sure sound beautiful….sometimes I just sit here and wish
things were different I don’t want to be a scary thing for people all the time
but I do like running around and I must admit…the screams are fun to hear….I
run faster when I hear those lovely screams…….Stupid leaves, stupid friends…who
cares about them anyway!?

"Don't Burst Be Happy"
Hey there, I’m Lumy. My mom says when I was born I was the brightest
and shiniest bubble she had ever seen that’s why she named me Luminous. Floating around inside this jar is great and the
outside looks so curious. All the other
bubbles talk about how they know some bubble who knows some bubble that bursts
on the outside. Burst from what? When we look up at the sky and see the big
Bright Bubble in the morning and the big Blue Bubble in the evening there is no
way a bubble could burst, especially my best friend Magellan Estefan and I,
M.E. for short; we have lots of fun together.
Watching people on the outside seem so happy we want to know
what the world is all about. You know like that song….”Don’t Burst Be Happy” or
is it Don’t Worry Be Happy? Uh, I don’t know…but we learn about different
people and places in the SUDS ACADEMY, we always say we are going to explore
the world and that’s what we are going to do!
We have a list and everything, M.E. is way excited about
exploring. M.E. talks about being an explorer all the
time. He does listen mostly but
sometimes interrupts me and finds a way back to talking about exploring and set
on meeting Bright Bubble and Blue Bubble.
It’s ok because I love exploring too!
We have a plan, but I also want to know why those petals on the trees
outside are always laughing and I want to feel the wind on my bubble….I think
that would be way cool! Oh, M.E. and I are not going to burst we have way too
much exploring to do! I’m whistling now…”Don’t
Burst Be Happy”…good song.

I Believe I can Fly!
Our plan is to:
1. Fly out of here
3. Travel the world
4. Make people laugh
5. Visit the Eiffel Tower in the City of Lights
6. See the tall Pretty Lady in New York City
7. Meet the two big bubbles that sit high in the sky and...
8. Come home again
Yep, that's the plan, but everyone thinks it's a dumb idea because no one has ever done it. My name is M.E. and it case you're wondering why I haven't listed number 2 in our flight plan its because number 2 in the plan is "Not burst". I'm a bubble and bubbles burst but I believe I won't.
I like that song.... "I believe I can flyyyyyy, I believe I can touch the skyyyyy....think about it evry' night and daaaay spread my suds and fly awaaay.....I believe I can soarrrr..... My best friend Lumy believes too.
That's why we're going to do it...we're going to fly out of this shampoo jar!"
